Kids Raise Money to Attend SuperCamp

Do you want to get your son or daughter involved in raising money to contribute to their SuperCamp tuition this year? Here are a couple of stories of kids who have taken it upon themselves to make it happen!

Brooklyn's Story (in her own words)

When I first heard about SuperCamp, I knew it was going to be an experience of a lifetime. I also knew that my family would never be able to afford it. Coming from a split family with a mother that makes very little money and has three other kids to raise, SuperCamp was out of the question.

I started thinking of ways that I could earn money instead of asking so much of my mom. I came up with the idea of ¡°The SuperCamp fund.¡± I made labels for jars asking my family and friends to help me out by putting their spare change in the jars and once the jars were filled to give them back. Some people think change is nothing, but when I collected the jars I made over $300!

Since $300 was not enough money to go to camp, I had to come up with other ideas of how to earn the money. I spent the school year doing extra chores like cleaning, for grandparents and friends of my family. Two sets of my grandparents helped me organize a garage sale. We collected unwanted items from friends and family members and put up garage sale signs. We made over $1,500 just by selling old stuff.

I finally had enough money to go to SuperCamp and I felt accomplished and really proud of myself for working so hard for something I wanted instead of it just being given to me. Going to SuperCamp was an amazing and life changing experience. I met so many great people and I had so much fun. You have fun and learn great skills you can use for the rest of your life. Don't let money issues get in the way of going to SuperCamp. It's worth it!

Summer's Story

When Summer was just 9 years old, she wanted to attend SuperCamp's Youth Forum program. Like Brooklyn, Summer was going to have to come up with some of the money herself. So, showing great initiative, she created a flyer (pictured here) that she circulated among family, friends, and neighbors.

After a lot of hard work on her part Summer was able to raise enough money that, when combined with her parents' $1,000 contribution, covered her enrollment tuition. And was it worth it? According to Summer and her mother, absolutely!

Summer has this to say about her SuperCamp experience: "SuperCamp has helped me so much in my life today. Ever since I attended SuperCamp my grades have increased every quarter. I am socializing better with people, and I have more friends. I have taught my class "SLANT" (Sit Up, Lean Forward, Ask Questions, Nod Your Head, Talk to Your Teacher). SuperCamp was a great experience. Now I can trust people, and I have faced my fears. I am so happy I went there. I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Summer's mother, Alicia, adds: "Sending my daughter to SuperCamp was one of the best things I could have done for my daughter. It really made a difference in her and her everyday life!"

Congratulations to Brooklyn, Summer, and all other campers who have similar stories, for making your dream of attending SuperCamp a reality!
